USA and Canadian teams to battle it out at the Vancouver Winter Olympics
Taking place February 12-28, the 2010 Winter Olympics will be upon us before we know it, and the majority of this year’s gold medal contenders for both Team USA and Team Canada have been announced.
To fully embrace the Winter Olympics vibe, now is the perfect time for fans to book their place in winter sports resort destinations and find some good ski gear to join in the winter fun. With the Olympics so close to home this year, the number of spectators and fans for both Team USA and Team Canada is expected to be record-breaking. This is seen as a perfect opportunity for some of the leading manufacturers of ski gear and other sports equipment to market to a large number of people.
Team Canada
As the Vancouver Winter Olympics gear up, fans of Team Canada will be watching the Canadian Olympics hockey team. With nine previous Olympic winter games gold medals and hockey veteran Scott Niedermayer serving as the team’s captain, the competition between Team Canada and Team USA for this year’s top position in Olympics Hockey will be intense.
Although Team USA defeated the Canadian team twice last year in the 2009 Hockey Canada Cup, some new additions to the team may prove worthwhile for Team Canada. In the World Junior Hockey Gold medal game held earlier this year, the junior American team defeated the Canadians by one point.
Alpine Skiing, Freestyle Skiing, and Cross Country Skiing are other Vancouver Winter Olympics events featuring some outstanding Team Canada competitors. While the Canadian Olympics team has brought home a number of medals in these events in years past, recent injuries to six Canadian skiers have caused them to put up their ski gear and sit out this year’s Vancouver Winter Olympics.
With this year’s winter games being hosted at home this year, spirits are high among Canadian fans and supporters, and a recent “paint the town red” campaign has many Team Canada followers wearing red to all Vancouver Winter Olympics events. One of Canada’s top athletes of all time, Kristina Groves is expected to show for five different events in this year’s games, as she shines up her skates and her ski gear to add even more gold medals to her existing collection. In addition, the Canadian luge teams and the women’s curling competitors are also expected to make quite a show at the Vancouver Winter Olympics.
Team USA
With the players of Team USA’s Vancouver Winter Olympics hockey team announced last week, fans from the US are gearing up to support their favorite Olympians as well. Ryan Suter, formerly of the Nashville Predators and son, nephew, and grandson of former US Olympic hockey team players is one of the fastest rising US Olympic hockey stars, and the center of many Team USA fans’ focus.
A recent increase in interest among female athletes and fans in the USA women’s hockey team is also expected to generate a large number of spectators who show up to support Team USA at the Vancouver Winter Olympics. Catherine Raney, Team USA’s long track speed skating competitor will also join this year’s winter games for the fourth time in a row, and Hannah Kearney was also recently added to Team USA’s ski and snowboarding roster, shining up her ski gear to make her long time Olympic dreams come true.
Whichever team you are getting behind, the event itself will be the real winner. So even if you are not a winter sportsperson, grab your armchair seat for the Vancouver Winter Olympics and enjoy the spectacle and ski gear fashion on display.
